Fitness Made Simple or The Carbohydrate Addicts Healthy Heart Program

Fitness Made Simple: The Power to Change Your Body, the Power to Change Your Life

Author: John Basedow

Discover John Basedow's secrets for getting the body you've always wanted

Fitness expert and media icon John Basedow's body-transforming plan is literally Fitness Made Simple. After trying just about every fitness fad and gimmick with little success, John developed this multidimensional approach that is improving the bodies and lives of thousands of men and women, from teenagers to grandparents. Fitness Made Simple is not just about losing weight. It's about changing your entire body composition so that you increase lean muscle mass and decrease body fat. This easy-to-follow program eliminates all the guesswork for building the body of your dreams with John's comprehensive “Fitness Triangle”:

Nutrition: By concentrating on natural protein sources, healthy fats, and slow-digesting carbs, you'll never be hungry, your junk food cravings will disappear, and fat will melt from your body.

Exercise: Utilizing a combination of cardiovascular and weight training workouts, you'll look great, feel better, and strip away fat to reveal those six-pack abs!

Supplementation: Not all supplements are created equal. John shows you which fat loss and muscle building products can actually produce cosmetically significant results, rather than just false hope and a depleted bank account.

Plus, John tells his own inspiring story of how he took control of his body and life, while accumulating years of health and fitness wisdom along the way. His signature “John-isms”--helpful quotes sprinkled throughout this book--will keep you motivated to stick with your new fitness lifestyle.

Susan B. Hagloch - Library Journal

Millions of Americans have glimpsed Basedow in his fitness infomercials, and this book marks the first time he's committed his successful Fitness Made Simple (FMS) program to paper. The three-prong approach of diet, exercise, and nutritional supplements promises sculpted muscles. Readers will appreciate the simple, sensible eating plan, with no gimmicks or quick-fix promises, and the well-illustrated exercises that concentrate on muscle building. The potential minefield of nutritional supplements is nicely handled, too. Instead of prescribing a particular brand, Basedow discusses the five active ingredients that he has found to be helpful, emphasizing that supplements are overhyped. While he does not address the difficulty of finding regulated products, he stresses the food and exercise components over supplements, so readers can skip this section and still improve their fitness. Featuring illustrated testimonials from satisfied users of the plan ranging from teenagers to grandparents, this title is an excellent all-purpose fitness guide. (DVD not seen.)

Publishers Weekly

In this follow-up to The Carbohydrate Addict's Diet, biomedical researchers Heller and Heller and cardiologist Vagnini present compelling evidence that eating a regular, low-carbohydrate diet can reduce the risk of heart disease--and they offer a clear program for sticking to it. According to their studies, heart disease, high blood pressure, adult-onset diabetes and excessive weight gain are all linked to high levels of insulin in the body that are triggered by the consumption of carbohydrates--especially in individuals whose genetically predisposed chemical imbalances cause them to crave high-carbohydrate foods. For these carbohydrate addicts, certain foods celebrated for their nutritional value (including pasta, rice and, surprisingly, even fruit) can promote the opposite of heart health. The book prescribes an exercise and nutrition program that reads much like any other healthy-heart plan, with attention paid to vitamin supplementation and low-carbohydrate tofu recipes. More helpful, however, is a section on how over-the-counter drugs, like pain relievers, can raise insulin levels in the body, resulting in carbohydrate cravings. This intelligently written book has much to offer those wanting to maintain a healthy heart. (Sept.) Copyright 1999 Cahners Business Information.
